Job Description

Laurel Bible Church is a small (30-50 active member) church looking for a senior pastor who can lead our church with conviction, vision, and humility. Our pastor of 20 years recently retired due to health issues. We are a loving and supportive church community looking to welcome in a God-fearing pastor to shepherd our congregation.

The Senior Pastor has the primary responsibility for preaching and teaching the Word of God and sustaining the biblical doctrines of LBC. In addition, the Senior Pastor is also responsible for discipling and equipping the saints for ministry, as well as bringing vision and oversight to the various church ministries.


Serve as the spiritual leader of the church.
Work with Elder(s) and Deacon(s) to develop the overall vision for the direction of the ministry.
Operate as the church’s primary Bible teacher and preacher, responsible for the regular Bible teaching ministry of the church.
Spend an appropriate amount of time in study and prayer in preparation for preaching and teaching.
Maintain and enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities related to this position description through necessary means of continuing education.
Serve as a leader by example in personal discipleship, stewardship, and evangelism.
Develop relationships within our community consistent with our church’s mission and values.
When needed, council members and families on how to live biblically faithful lives.
Provide leadership and direction with the church’s various ministries.

Skills required

A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ.
A calling to pastoral ministry.
Agreement with the doctrinal statement of LBC and a willingness to operate within our church constitution.
Consistent spiritual and moral character and lifestyle, complying with the constitution of LBC and the biblical leadership qualifications described in 1 Tim. 3:1-13; 2 Tim. 2; Titus 1:5-9.
Competent in organization, administration and interpersonal relationships.
Potential and desire to remain in a long-term ministry at LBC.
Strong in biblical preaching and expository preaching.
History of faithful ministry experience.
Willingness to use technology to help the church further its ministry goals.
Ability to engage people of all generations in the ministry of the church.
