Job Description

Providence Reformed Baptist Church of Casa Grande, Arizona is a confessional church in search of a qualified candidate to serve as a full-time pastor.

The Church

Providence Reformed Baptist Church subscribes to the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith and affirms it as an accurate summary of biblical doctrine. We planted our church just a handful of years ago in a rural area of central Arizona, right next door to the local community college. Although we are located just outside the city of Casa Grande, our members are spread all over the region, some traveling nearly an hour to attend church. Yet we value maintaining our open, welcoming, and close-knit body and desire a pastor committed to feeding and building the relationships within our community. Our members also have a heart for evangelism and seek a pastor with a desire to personally lead in that area. Though our church is stable, self-sufficient, and even thriving, we are still very much in the process of becoming established. Our church has various practical needs at any given time that are typical of a small church. We need a pastor who is willing to provide practical leadership in any number of such areas. As our community continues to grow, by God’s providence it might not be long before we outgrow our church building. We will require leadership in finding ways to accommodate future growth. We seek a pastor with vision and drive to build the church upon the foundation of the Word of God, eager to minister personally to the souls under his care.

The Pastor

Qualifications. A candidate must satisfy each of the biblical qualifications for pastoral office: blameless as a steward of God, above reproach, a faithful husband to his wife, temperate, sober, vigilant, prudent, of good behavior, orderly, respectable, given to hospitality, able to teach, not given to wine, not violent, not pugnacious, patient, moderate, forbearing, gentle, uncontentious, not soon angry or quick-tempered, not covetous, not a lover of money, an able ruler of his own household whose children are faithful, not accused of rebellion to God, not a novice or new convert, having a good rapport or reputation with outsiders, not self-willed, a lover of what is good, just, fair, holy, devout, self-controlled, and holding firmly to the faithful message as it has been taught. In addition, the candidate must fully subscribe to the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith. A pastoral candidate should be committed to expository preaching, ready to preach at the morning and evening worship services each Lord’s Day with the support of his fellow elders and gifted brothers, consistent in attendance and leadership at all church events throughout the week, committed to regularly maintaining a visible and physical presence at the church office, and eager to provide servant leadership in all the affairs and administration of the church as serves the good of the body. Prior pastoral experience is strongly preferred. Administrative experience is helpful, but not required.

Role. Our confession describes the pastoral role as “being constantly to attend the service of Christ, in his churches, in the ministry of the word and prayer, with watching for their souls, as they that must give an account to Him.” Together with his fellow elders, the pastor is responsible for the oversight of all affairs and administration of the church, including its worship, discipleship, doctrine, and discipline. It is his charge to feed and tend the flock as Christ’s minister and with the other elders to lead them in all the service of Christ. It is his task to conduct the public worship of God; to pray for and with Christ’s flock as the mouth of the people unto God; to feed the flock by the public reading and preaching of the Word of God, according to which he is to teach, convince, reprove, exhort, comfort, and evangelize, expounding and applying the truth of Scripture with ministerial authority, as a diligent workman approved by God; to administer the ordinances; to bless the people from God; to shepherd the flock and minister the Word according to the particular needs of groups, families, and individuals in the congregation, catechizing by teaching plainly the first principles of the oracles of God to young people and new converts, visiting in the homes of the people, instructing and counseling individuals, and training them to be faithful servants of Christ; to minister to the poor, the sick, the afflicted, and the dying; and to make known the gospel to the lost.

The Application

Applicants are invited to submit a resumé; a minimum of three references; samples of both sermons and teaching in other formats; and a cover letter describing your vision for the mission and ministry of the church, the role of the pastor in caring for the flock, how your experience demonstrates your ministry priorities in action, and how you see yourself fitting into the circumstances of Providence Reformed Baptist of Casa Grande. Upon being invited for an interview, applicants will also be provided a written questionnaire. A compensation package will be determined upon hiring.
