Position: First Baptist Church, Waterford – Senior Pastor

Position Level: Administration

FBC of Waterford, California, is searching for a Senior Pastor who will lead us in biblical truth and exercise shepherd-like leadership through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The ideal pastoral candidate shall be a graduate of a Southern Baptist seminary or “The Master’s” Seminary (eligible to apply within one semester of completion). The candidate shall fulfill the Biblical qualifications of 1 Tim. 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9, as well as adhere to the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message. The candidate must be detail-oriented with experience and proficiency in the Administration of the Church.
We believe the man God calls to Pastor our congregation should possess strengths in the following areas: expository preaching and teaching of scripture, applying scripture to the needs of the congregation, providing leadership to the staff, committees, and ministries of the church. The candidate must have a passion to preach and teach to both young and old in following Jesus and equip them to share the Gospel.
FBC Waterford is a large campus that includes a parsonage, several ministries, and room for expansion. Pastor Job Description
The Pastor shall be a duly licensed and ordained Baptist minister. The Pastor’s position is multifaceted, combining teaching and preaching the Word of God, spiritual leadership, administrative responsibilities, and community engagement. As a pastor, your primary role is shepherding the congregation, teaching biblical principles, developing teachers, and fostering a sense of community within the church.
Here are the key aspects of the position:

1. Ministry and Worship:
o Set as a guideline of personal behavior the standard required in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9. Adhere to the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message.
o Maintain a regular program of bible study to enable yourself to plan and conduct meaningful worship services centered on the Word of God.
o Plan and deliver weekly sermons that align with biblical teachings and resonate with the congregation.
o Prepare and conduct worship services which include the observance of ordinances. (Administering baptisms and the Lord’s Supper)
o Collaborate with the music ministry to select appropriate worship music that complements the sermon theme.
o Lead or delegate the leadership of the worship and ministry services to those deemed qualified. [When appropriate]
o Developing and maintaining a program for the purpose of developing leaders in ministry.
o Provide theological teaching through Bible studies, classes, and discipleship programs.
o Visit sick, bereaved, and homebound members.

2. Administrative Duties:
o Provide primary administrative leadership for the total church program. The pastor is described as the head of the administrative body.
o Formulate, recommend, and implement those policies adopted by the church regarding the pastoral ministry of the church.
o Work with church elders to create and manage the church budget.
o Recommend and advise on the selection of all paid staff members.
o Supervise paid church staff, including secretaries, office managers, and custodians.
o Give supervision to members of the volunteer staff.
o Act as moderator for church business meetings.
o Serve as the head of the administrative body (church elders).
o Chair Church Council
o Work with deacons, church officers, and committees in performing assigned responsibilities. Be available for and lead in training as needed.
o By virtue of position, the pastor is a member of all church committees and councils.

3. Community Representation:
o Represent the church at civic functions and community events.
o Conduct funeral and wedding services as willing and able, or delegate this responsibility to an appropriate and qualified moderator.

4. Missionary Responsibilities:
o Plan and promote periods of evangelistic emphasis for the unsaved.
o Plan and train members for evangelistic visitation within the community.

5. Counseling and Spiritual Guidance:
o Provide counseling to church members on various matters (relationships, addictions, finances).

6. Qualifications:
o Character: Exhibit good character and standards (1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9).
o Doctrine: Be well-versed in Southern Baptist doctrine.
o Commitment: Demonstrate a commitment to ministry and the church community.
