Job Description
Qualifications: Candidates must wholeheartedly agree with and endorse the Statement of Faith and Bylaws of this church, meet the qualifications for pastor as stated in I Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9, and have been examined by the congregation as to their fitness for this position. They should be ordained ministers of the Gospel. They should have at least 2 years of experience as a senior pastor and have a Master of Divinity degree from a reputable and Bible-based seminary.
General Duties of Senior Pastor: To devote their time to prayer and the study and ministry of the Word (Acts 6:4) by teaching and encouraging sound doctrine, shepherding God’s flock entrusted to him (I Peter 5:1-4) through teaching and preaching, and leading people to the Cross by sharing the salvation message and an invitation to receive Christ to the lost each week who attend our church.
Specific Duties of Senior Pastor: Conduct worship services, doing visitation and counseling, administer the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper, perform the marriage ceremony in accordance with the laws of God and of the state, officiate at funerals, equip the saints for the work of the ministry in the church, encourage sound doctrine and practice, promote the ministries of the church, mobilize the church for missions locally and globally, and such other duties as normally pertain to the position of pastor. He shall have general oversight of the spiritual life, regular services, and varied ministries of the church.
He shall be moderator of the church and ex-officio member of all boards and committees. No meeting of these boards or committees shall be capable of conducting any official church business unless the senior pastor has been first been notified and invited to attend such meetings.
The senior pastor shall have the day-to-day oversight of the pastoral and church staff. Before the advisory committee meets to recommend the church budget for the following year, the senior pastor, along with the deacons/trustees, shall provide an evaluation of the pastoral and church staff to the advisory committee to assist in salary and benefit discussions. The deacons/trustees shall make a recommendation for the senior pastor’s yearly financial evaluation to the advisory board without the senior pastor present.
In the event of the senior pastor’s absence, it shall be his responsibility to arrange for pulpit supply. If he is unable to do so, such responsibility would fall to the deacons/trustees.
