Job Description

The Pastor of Discipleship is called and equipped by God to provide oversight in all matters of developing disciples out of children, parents, and adults in the local body of First Baptist Church Richmond.

Development of Children / Students
Oversee relational, biblically based, and engaging ministries to children and youth
Facilitate curriculum for Sunday school classes that would encourage opportunities for study and growth outside of classes.
Teach and counsel the next generation in the ways of godliness and obedience to the commandments of Christ.

Development of Parents
Oversee training that helps parents understand their role and responsibilities.
Coach parents and children privately on specific issues in their family.
Guide ministry leaders in selecting or developing a curriculum that helps parents to complement the church teaching with home instruction while providing access to resources that allow the parents to spiritually lead in their home.

Development of Adults
Work with the Lead Pastor and other ministry teams to ensure that there are opportunities for all generations to worship, learn and serve together.
Development and connection of spiritually mature adults with younger ones for the purpose of promoting ongoing discipleship using a Titus 2 model.
Provide oversight of Small Groups and Sunday School classes.

Other Duties
Would assist in the visitation, praying, counseling with members of the congregation.
Would prepare and preach sermons on occasion and relieve the Lead Pastor during absences.

Qualifications:
Meets the qualifications of an overseer as found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9 & 1 Peter 5:1-4
Is in full agreement with First Baptist Church’s Statement of Faith
4 year, Bachelor’s Degree in ministry, biblical studies, or a related discipline
Needs to have a strong call and heart for discipleship across all generations
