Job Description
Purpose: To glorify God and encourage the faith of His people, by exalting Christ and leading the body in biblically sound worship
Qualifications:
-Evidence of growth in Christian maturity (Col 1:9-12) and the fruits of the Spirit (Gal 5:22-23) with the desire to grow into an elder/pastor if qualified and called (1 Tim 3:1-7, 1 Pet 5:1-4)
-Desire to glorify God through music and lead His people in worship (1 Cor 6:20)
-Ability to lead the congregation in worship (1 Chr 15:22, Col 3:23)
-Appreciation and familiarity with both traditional hymns and modern Christian music
-Agreement in principle with the Baptist Faith & Message 2000, the 1689 Second London Baptist Confession and the Abstract of Principles (Any significant disagreements can be noted during the interview process)
-Willingness to become a member of Living Hope Baptist Church upon acceptance
Responsibilities:
-Select and arrange theologically sound music for Sunday morning worship and other special services (Good Friday, Christmas Eve, hymn sings, etc.)
-Lead the congregation in worship and exalting Christ by example and through songs, calls to worship, prayers, and appropriate encouragements and exhortations
-Pray with the worship team before the service to prepare your hearts to lead in worship, to pray for the congregation, and the pastoral team
-Organize and lead regular practice sessions for the musicians to check in with them, to teach about worship, and to ensure they are ready to play each week
-Instill in the congregation a healthy respect for biblically sound traditional and contemporary Christian music
-Continued personal growth in faith, doctrine, and an understanding of biblical worship through trainings, conferences, books and podcasts
-Work cooperatively as a team with other musicians, vocalists, and elder/pastors
-Recruit and cultivate musicians and singers to incorporate into the worship team as practicable
-Prepare the sheet music for the musicians and provide lyrics to the team in charge of preparing the bulletin and worship slides
-Purchase music software and music supplies and equipment as needed/budget allows
-Maintain church owned instruments and ensure the stage is kept organized and clean
-Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start of each service and depart no later than 10 minutes after the conclusion of the service to play music as appropriate
-Be actively involved in the life of the church by fellowshipping with the church, participating in special events, and attending regular church ministries (Sunday Morning Discipleship, Wednesday night small groups, etc.)
-This position reports to the pastors/elders
Time: 4-6 hours a week to start with potential to grow into a larger bivocational pastoral role
